Mount Hermon – Israel

“Tabor and Hermon sing forth Your name” Psalms (89:12).

That’s Mount Hermon in the background! In the extreme northeast of Israel (the “Golan Heights”), Mount Hermon with its 2,814-meter peak is the country’s highest point (and the only mountain with ski slopes…)

It served as the northern boundary of the Israel (Deut. 3:8) and is now called “the eyes of the nation.”

Mt. Hermon is extremely valuable as a strategic early warning system against unpleasant surprises from our northern neighbors. We ‘LIKE’ having this towering, beautiful mountain as part of the Land of Israel!

You are in Christ Jesus

. . . you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God —

that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

Phil Ware

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Jesus is our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. Let’s unpack those church words.

Righteousness — the ability to stand before God and be declared free from guilt.

Holiness — the character and nature that reflect the glory and sanctity of heaven.

Redemption — the gift of freedom bought at great expense.

Christians aren’t perfect? Hmmm!

We know this is true. But, because of Jesus’ loving sacrifice, we also know that in God’s eyes we’re righteous, holy, and redeemed.

That, dear friend of Jesus, is what we call amazing grace!

Prayer…

How can I thank you, wise and merciful Father, for the gift of Jesus? Your love in formulating the plan to send him, your sacrifice in having him become mortal, your agony when your own creations murdered him are too wonderful for understanding. But in my heart I do know that you did these things because of your loving grace and I want to thank you and praise you forever. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Look over your shoulder

And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

fixing our eyes on Jesus,

the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Hebrews 12:1-2

In Matthew 14:28, Peter took Jesus at his word:

“Lord, if it’s you, command me to come to you on the water.

Jesus said, Come  And when Peter had come down out of the boat,

he walked on the water to go to Jesus.”

Storms prompt us to take unprecedented journeys.

For a few historic steps and heart-stilling moments,

Peter did the impossible.

He defied gravity and nature;

he walked on the water to Jesus!

But when Peter saw the wind,

he was afraid;

and beginning to sink he cried out,

“Lord, save me!”

Peter shifted his attention away from Jesus and toward the squall—

and when he did, he sank like a brick in a pond.

Whether or not storms come,

we cannot choose.

But where we stare during a storm—

that we can!

God’s Daily Promise #4

Genesis 1:27-28

27 God created man in his own image. In God’s image he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them. God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
(World English Bible)

Promise #4: I created you in My own image with My special blessing.

God created us in His own image. Think about that for a moment. We were created to reflect the image of God Himself! I wonder what the angels thought when they first saw Adam and Eve? What a glorious privilege to be made in the image of the One who knit us together in our mother’s womb!

May we never take this blessing for granted. May we always be in awe of the fact that we were created to look just like God. When Jesus came to the earth 2,000 years ago, He sealed the deal by making a way for us to be conformed into His image (Romans 8:29) inside and out so that He could be the firstborn of many brothers and sisters.

My prayer today is that we would live in the light of our Father’s original blessing to be fruitful, to multiply and to have dominion throughout the whole earth with the knowledge that we were created to look just like our heavenly Dad.

God’s Daily Promise #3

Psalm 33:11
The counsel of Yahweh stands fast forever,
the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

(World English Bible)

Promise #3: The intentions of My heart will remain steadfast forever.

In today’s promise, we are reminded that God is steadfast in what He has purposed. The New Living Translation Bible says Psalm 33:11 this way… But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. NLT

When God determines to do something, His plans will stand firm forever. He is not fickle or tempermental and He will not be swayed by public opinion or the winds of change. He has fixed His eyes upon us and has purposed in His heart to love us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). …And He won’t change His mind!

What our heavenly Father started in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 1, He will see to completion at the end of the book of Revelation. No force in heaven or on earth will be able to prevent His purposes from being fulfilled. We can rest in God’s plan for our lives for the intentions of His heart will remain steadfast forever! ~ Barry Adams

God’s Daily Promise #2

Psalm 103:8

Yahweh is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness.

(World English Bible)

Promise #2: I am full of mercy and grace and I overflow with love.

We live only a few miles from Niagara Falls. I am always overwhelmed by the sheer power and volume of the water that cascades over the brink of this natural wonder every second. When I think of the unending stream of God’s love that He shows to us every day, I think of this natural wonder.

As we continue our daily journey of reflecting in some of the promises of God in 2012, may we always be reminded of how He sees us. The Lord is full of mercy and grace and He overflows with love towards us. Everything that He does is motivated by His eternal, unending kindness. May the Holy Spirit give us a deeper revelation of the character and nature of God this new year and may He dismantle any misconceptions of our heavenly Dad that cause us to see Him as distant and angry.

Our God and Father is good. He is full of mercy and grace and just like Niagara Falls, He continually showers His love upon us. And His love will never ever end. May the revelation of the love of God continue to rush like a mighty river into your heart today.

Beit Shemesh – Israel

This photo is a real beauty- it is a picture of the sunset over the mountains and houses of Beit Shemesh, a city located in the outskirts of Jerusalem. Beit Shemesh is mentioned in the Torah several times, and till today it continues to be home to thousands of people.

God’s Daily Promise #1

Malachi 3:6

“For I, Yahweh, don’t change;
therefore you, sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

(World English Bible)

Promise #1: I am the Lord your God and I never change.
It is important for us to be reminded of this simple truth…  The Lord our God does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Every promise that He has made is secure and will last forever. Since we live in a world that is constantly changing, the promise of our Father’s rock-solid commitment to us is very reassuring.
Today is a new day for us to be able to experience the Lord’s continued faithfulness in our lives. He will never leave us or let us down. He loves us with all His heart and each one of His promises that is true today will be true in a million years from now.I pray that this truth will bring a deeper level of comfort and security to each one of our lives. May we look forward to all of the ways that our Father will show Himself faithful to us in 2012. May you be blessed beyond imagination!

Become a Worry-Slapper!

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,

and all these things shall be added to you.

Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow,

for tomorrow will worry about its own things.

Matthew 6:33-34

Jesus said, “I tell you not to worry about everyday life—

whether you have enough.”

Not enough time, luck, credit, wisdom, intelligence.

We’re running out of everything, it seems, and so we worry!

But worry doesn’t work.

I challenge you to become a worry-slapper.

Do you procrastinate when a blood-sucking bug lights on your skin?

“I’ll take care of that in a moment.”

Of course you don’t!

You give the critter the slap it deserves.

Don’t waste an hour wondering what your boss thinks.

Ask her.

Don’t assume you’ll never get out of debt.

Consult an expert.

Let God be enough!

He knows your needs.

Seek Him!

He will give you everything you need!

Is Netanyahu’s Patience with Iran Running Out?

Posted: January 24, 2012 in Uncategorized
by Joel C. Rosenberg

Does Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu think the West is taking decisive action to stop Iran from getting the Bomb, or does he think the West is fiddling while Tel Aviv runs the rising risk of burning? That’s the Big Question as tensions continue to mount in the epicenter this week. Iran is making new threats to close the Strait of Hormuz to oil shipments, just days after test-firing missiles over the Strait. The U.S., Britain and France are sending additional naval forces  into the Gulf. The European Union is taking new steps to impose an oil embargo on Iran. The U.S. is taking steps to sanction Iran’s third largest bank, though dragging its feet on actually sanctioning Iran’s Central Bank. Adding to the regional tensions, Russia is lashing out at the EU and selling $550 million worth of arms to one of Iran’s key regional allies. Will such Western moves be enough to stop Iran from building an arsenal of nuclear weapons? Personally, I’m not convinced. Such moves would have been good a few years ago. Now they strike me as too little too late, especially after the Obama White House disastrous decision recently to cancel joint military exercises with Israel for fear of being “too provocative” towards Iran. But it doesn’t matter what I think. What matters is what Netanyahu thinks. If he decides the West isn’t doing enough and Iran is going to get the Bomb, then he is going to hit Iran hard, soon, and without warning.

In that context, it’s worth noting a speech Netanyahu gave Tuesday warning his nation that the world has not internalized the lessons of the Holocaust. ”Speaking at the Knesset just days before  International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27), Netanyahu reasoned that the Jewish people must not put their fate in the hands of the  international community,” reported the Jerusalem Post. “Posing a rhetorical question, Netanyahu asked, ‘How does the world react to the calls for genocide against the Jews today? Seventy years after the shoa [Holocaust], Iran is calling for us to be wiped off the map, Hezbollah is calling for our extinction, as are many in Hamas….The Jerusalem Mufti [Sheikh Muhammad Hussein] called on Sunday for Jews to be killed wherever they are…echoing his predecessor Haj Amin Al Husseini, who actively helped Hitler and Eichman,’ he said. ‘I do not hear the international community condemning this. I hear them  condemning buildings in the West Bank. But I don’t hear them condemning  this incitement,’ said Netanyahu.”

Could Netanyahu be signaling that his patience — and that of the Israeli government and military – is running out?

Worth noting: “Two Iranian lawmakers on Monday stepped up threats their country would close the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s crude flows, in retaliation for oil sanctions on Tehran,” reports Haaretz. “The warnings came as EU nations agreed in Brussels on an oil embargo against Iran as part of sanctions over the country’s controversial nuclear program. The measure includes an immediate embargo on new contracts for Iranian crude and petroleum products while existing ones will be allowed to run until July. Iran has repeatedly warned it would choke off the strait if sanctions affect its oil sales, and two lawmakers ratcheted up the rhetoric on Monday….For its part, the United States has enacted, but not yet put into force, sanctions targeting Iran’s central bank and, by extension, the country’s ability to be paid for its oil. Some 80 percent of Iran’s oil revenue comes from exports and any measures or sanctions taken that affect its ability to export oil could hit hard at its economy. With about 4 million barrels per day, Iran is the second largest producer in OPEC.”

Two Mistakes Regarding Iran

by Joel Rosenberg

>> Rating the GOP presidential candidates on the Iran issue

The White House has made two new and serious mistakes on Iran in recent days:

  1. The Obama administration has just canceled joint military exercises with the Israelis.
  2. The Obama administration has both denied killing a top-ranking Iranian nuclear scientist and condemned the scientist’s assassination.

Given that U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says Iran could have the Bomb by the end of 2012, the U.S. should intensifying pressure on the evil regime in Tehran. This would include dramatically escalating covert ops inside Iran, and making preparations for possible air strikes if there are no other alternatives to neutralizing the Iran threat. Instead, the senior team at the White House just blinked — twice — showing weakness instead of resolve. They have also made it more likely, not less, that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu may conclude this year that he has no other choice but to launch a massive first strike against Iran. Thus: The United States has stepped up contingency planning in case Israel launches a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday. According to the report, U.S. defense officials are becoming increasingly concerned that Israel is preparing to carry out such a strike.” At the moment, Army General Martin Dempsey, the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is heading to Israel for talks about Iran.

Meanwhile, “Israeli Cabinet Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Sunday he was disappointed that the U.S. has not expanded sanctions to further damage Iran’s central bank and its energy industry. He also suggested that the Obama  administration hasn’t been as forceful as Britain and France in  imposing sanctions. ‘In the United States, the Senate passed a resolution, by a majority of 100-to-1, to impose these sanctions, and in the U.S. administration there is hesitation for fear of  oil prices rising this year, out of election-year considerations,’ Ya’alon told  Israel Radio, according to Haaretz newspaper. ‘In that regard, this is certainly  a disappointment, for now.’”

This is exactly why I’m saying we’d better keep praying for peace, while preparing ourselves for war.

Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan, an academic who also worked at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility, and the driver of the car were killed in the attack. Verse of the Day – January 24, 2012

To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you
before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy — to
the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority,
through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and
forevermore! Amen.
— Jude 1:24-25
http://www.BibleStudyTools.com/search/?query=Jude+1:24-25

THOUGHT:
What a great cluster of truths are found in this one prayer of
blessing. Our eyes are first drawn to what God can do for us —
prevent us from falling and present us before his glorious presence
in joyful perfection. But on closer inspection, our hearts are
drawn to the description of our incredible God: the one who is
able, the only God, our Savior, the one who lives in glory and
majesty and power and authority, the one who has communicated to us
through Jesus our Lord, and the one who exists before all ages and
who is alive now and who will be forevermore. Our blessings as
God’s children are incredible, but the reason why they are is that
our God is beyond incredible, awesome, and wonderful. Our words
cannot do him justice. Our brightest insights cannot comprehend the
glory he has. Yet despite his grandeur, he loves you and me in our
finite mortality!

PRAYER:
Awesome and Holy Lord Most High, thank you for not only being
God, but for loving me and showing yourself to me in the face of
Jesus. I look forward to standing in your presence, enjoying your
shared perfection, and praising your glory with the angels. Please
accept my limited and human praise until the day my words are
unchained from their mortality and my imperfections are swallowed
up in your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Sorting coins until God says I’m good

By Jon Walker

Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. Romans 3:20 (NIV)

I once went to one of those coin-sorting machines today and poured in a huge bag of change that had accumulated in a cup kept on the chest of drawers in my bedroom.

The total came to $22.31. I took the receipt to customer service and the cashier gave me 22 dollars in bills . . . and then 31 cents.

So I still have change and I paid the machine eight percent of the total to count those 31 cents (why it rejected the rubber band and the guitar pick that also poured out of the cup is beyond me).

Hmmm, I think I need some chocolate to help me think this through. Perhaps this is how you get hooked into an addiction; you always have change left over, so you eventually have to come back.

I know, I could count out the exact amount of change to total an even dollar amount, like $22.00 and no cents, and then pour that into the coin-sorting machine.

But then I’d be counting the change myself and I might as well not be at the machine. Aarghhhh!!!!

I definitely need some chocolate to reach a cosmic revelation on this. Anybody got change for a candy bar? I seem to be a little short . . .

When we try to live by the law, it’s like we’re pouring change into a coin-sorting machine, always trying to hit an even dollar amount. The law serves a useful purpose in that it shows us how impossible it is to reach God-righteousness by our own efforts.

The frustration we feel when we stumble and fail is absolutely normal. In truth, it’s part of God’s plan. “Through the law we become conscious of sin,” (Romans 3:20 NIV) and by realizing how far we fall short, we’re able to admit, “I can’t; God can.”

Once there, we’re able to live by the Holy Spirit at work within us.

Fear involves torment

There is no fear in love;

but perfect love casts out  fear,

because fear involves torment.

But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

I John 4:18

Fear,

when it is mismanaged,

leads to sin.

And sin leads to hiding.

And since we’ve all sinned, we all hide—

in 80-hour workweeks,

temper tantrums,

and religious busyness.

We avoid contact with God!

We’re convinced God must hate our evil tendencies.

We despise our lustful thoughts, harsh judgments, and selfish deeds.

If our sin nauseates us,

how much more must it revolt a holy God?

So we draw a practical conclusion:

God is ticked off at us!

Sin has left us lost and confused.

Yes, we have disappointed God.

But no, God has not abandoned us!

Jesus loves us too much to leave us in doubt about His grace.

God keeps no list of our wrongs.

His love casts out fear because He casts out our sin!

Live forgiven!

Do you disagree with God?

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:13-15

We sometimes believe a mouse in a lion’s den has better odds of success than we do.

You flop miserably and descend yet another level into the basement of self-defeat!

Fear of insignificance creates the results it dreads!

It arrives at the destination it tries to avoid.  I

f you pass your days mumbling,

“I’ll never make a difference; I’m not worth anything,” then guess what?

You sentence yourself to a life of gloom without parole!

Even worse—you’re disagreeing with God.  Questioning His judgment.

Second-guessing His taste.

According to God, you were ‘wonderfully made.’

He can’t stop thinking about you.

Why does He love you so much?

The same reason the artist loves his paintings.

You’re His idea!

And God only has good ideas!

Obeying God brings great joy

How Much Do You Trust Your Heavenly Father?

If you love me, obey my commandments.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you.…

Those who obey my commandments are the ones who love them.

And because they love me, my Father will love them,

and I will love them.

And I will reveal myself to each one of them.

Matthew 21:28-32 NLT

An expression of trust

Parents set up rules for their children: Clean up your room, don’t go anywhere with a stranger; be home by 11 p.m. The purpose, of course, is for the children’s benefit and protection; loving parents are not trying to make their children miserable by given them rules to follow. And parents hope that their children will understand rules as expressions of love and concern; they hope their children’s obedience will be motivated more by love than by fear of punishment. Our obedience to Christ should likewise be an expression of our trust in his care for us.

Only One You

From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth;

He fashions their hearts individually;

He considers all their works.

Psalm 33:14-15 NKJV

The truth is—

you were a brand-new idea from the mind of God!

Psalm 33:14-15 says, “From the place of His dwelling,

He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth;

He fashions their hearts individually.”

You’re the only you God made!

He made you and broke the mold!

No one can duplicate your life.

Scan history for your replica—

you won’t find it!

You’re tailor made by God.

God personally formed and made you.

You’re not one of many!

You’re it!

And if you don’t take full advantage of how God made you,

we don’t get you.

We miss out!

Think of it this way:

you’re heaven’s Halley’s comet.

And we have one shot at seeing you shine!

Studying Biblical Prophecy

The study of prophecy is not to Scare us,

but to Prepare us.

Studying Biblical Prophecy has been a passion of mine since I was a teenager. My first exposure to the subject was from a book entitled “The Bible and Tomorrow’s News”.

Studying prophecy can bring confusion and fear to a lot of people. I think that is because it is hard to understand.

We are attempting to wade into the study of prophecy a little at a time on our blog. We think it will be interesting for our readers to understand the basics as you follow each day’s news and how they are related.

The study can also be a source of encouragement and inspiration.  As we understand the relationship of knowledge of the scriptures and motivate our call to share the gospel, it will strengthen all of us.

I have included direct links below to the categories on our blog that will help us as we study.

We encourage comments and discussion of this wealth of knowledge that God has given us in His word.

Blessings,

Sharon & Erick

God has not given us a spirit of Fear

For God has not given us a spirit of fear,

but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

Fear!

It sucks the life out of the soul!

And when fear shapes our lives,

safety becomes our god.

We worship the risk-free life!

The fear-filled cannot love deeply.

Love is just too risky.

No wonder Jesus wages such a war against fear.

Don’t be afraid.

Take courage.

Do not fear those who kill the body

but cannot kill the soul.

Don’t let your hearts be troubled.

Trust in God, and trust also in me.

Jesus steps into the storm and asks,

“Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?”

Fear may fill the world, but it doesn’t have to fill your heart!

Hysteria is not from God.

And Jesus doesn’t want you to live there!

The promise of Christ is …

God has not given you a spirit of fear!

Grace: unencumbered by guilt, shame, fear

By Jon Walker

Jesus answered,

“If you knew the generosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink,

and I would give you fresh, living water.”

John 4:10 (MSG)

Grace allows people to make choices and trusts them to make the best choice.

Grace is free and flowing.

It is unencumbered by guilt or shame or fear because grace says, “I know all about you, and I still love you with a godly acceptance.”

We see this in John 4, when Jesus meets the woman at the well.

When she offers to give him a drink, he says,

“If you knew the generosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink, and I would give you fresh living water”.

Note that Jesus talks about how gracious God can be.

Yet, if we’re honest, we often behave as if God is stingy with his grace.

We fear his punishment, acting as if he’s like a high school vice principal walking the halls,

taking down names.

Who did what and who’s to blame?

But God already knows who did what and who’s to blame,

and he loves us anyway.

His aim to redeem us, not to keep us on the hook for our sins.

So why do we live as if we’re still on the hook.

And why do we tend to keep others on the hook by using weapons of the flesh—

like the sarcastic comment or the angry stare—

designed to get people to straighten up and live right.

In contrast, when the woman at the well goes back to her village, she says,

“Come see a man . . . who knows me inside and out” (John 4:29 MSG).

Jesus knows all about her,

and yet he communicates with her in such a fashion

that she leaves feeling loved and accepted.

That’s grace.

You are not alone!

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.  Psalm 56:3

God said, “I will not forsake my people!”

The Lord is with us.

And with Him near—everything is different.

Everything!

Even a serious illness.

Even death.

You aren’t facing illness or death alone—the Lord is with you.

You may be facing marital struggles, but you aren’t facing them alone.

The Lord is with you!

You may be facing debt, but you aren’t facing debt alone.

The Lord is with you.

Your family may turn against you,

but God won’t.

Your friends may betray you,

but God won’t.

You may feel alone in the wilderness,

but you are not.

He is with you!

Timeline of End Times by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins

Three Signs of the End

By Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins

Jesus’ disciples asked Him a classic question 2000 years ago: “What shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the age?”

That remains one of the most prominent questions to this day. The fact is that the signs of the times are all around us. Many are asking, “How long can it be until the end of history, the end of life as we know it?”

In our book Are We Living in the End Times? we list many of the signs of the times apparent in our generation. We believe that while no one knows the day or the hour when Christ will return, we have more reason to believe He could come in our lifetime than any generation before us.

Many leading politicians look to the potential of a world government as the panacea that would bring global peace. That is why the United Nations was formed, yet even with its 60-year incapability to bring about peace, it remains the dream of many world planners.

World government is only one leg of the prophesied three-legged stool of end times globalism. The other two are a one-world economy and a one-world religion. The worldwide interchange of goods and services today, along with the current economic chaos, seems a clear signal that the prophecies of Revelation 13 and 18 may be coming true.

The one-world religion is beginning to form but will really come together right after the Rapture when Christ calls His church to heaven to be with Him in His Father’s house (John 14:1-3). Even today Christianity is one main impediment to the forming of a global religion, which will (according to Revelation 17) be destroyed at the end of the Tribulation period.

God in His mercy may wait one more day, which in His economy of time is a thousand of our years. But we are instructed to watch and wait for Christ’s imminent return, as if it could be today. Because it could!

We believe every Christian and church should share the Gospel faithfully with as many as possible. Our driving passion is that we don’t want anyone to be left behind.

The Ultimate Sign of the End of Time

By Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins

Of the thirty or more signs of the end of time as we know it, which will culminate with the return of Christ to set up His 1,000-year reign on earth, none is more specific and convincing than the re-gathering of over one third of the world’s Jews into the Land of Israel during the last century and the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.

The very idea is a miracle itself. Never before in the history of the world has a nation been dispersed from its homeland for so many years without sinking beneath the sands of time. Many great nations, like the Hittites, were so lost after their dispersion that many scoffed at the Bible for even mentioning their existence. Yet archeologists finally dug up irrefutable evidence that they did indeed live and were a great people, just as the Bible said.

The lone exception to that rule of losing ethnic identity after such a dispersion is Israel. More than 1,700 years after being expelled from their homeland, the Jews were plentiful enough to send six million back to Israel, the land God deeded to them “forever.” Just as the Hebrew prophets had predicted, they would be drawn from all over the world “in the last days.”

Ezekiel 36-39 clearly calls the people “the whole House of Israel.” The prophet (inspired by God Himself, who alone can predict history) even provided the names of the enemies of Israel in the End Times – the very neighbors of Israel today who continually plot her destruction.

We can justifiably call the last sixty years of the nation of Israel a direct miracle that cries out for the recognition of God and the supernatural inspiration of the Bible. Wouldn’t the world’s skeptics have had a field day ridiculing the Bible had the Jews never returned to the land? But the skeptics are silent now. The Hebrew prophets predicted the ultimate possession of the land by the sons of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The prophecy also avers that the Son of David will someday rule the world from His throne in Jerusalem, in the land of Israel. His name will be Jesus Christ, “and He shall be called KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:16).

Better to accept Him by faith now and bend your knee to Him than wait until you are forced to (Philippians 2:9-11). For then it will be too late.

You Need a Savior

“What is impossible with men is possible with God.”

Luke 18:27 NIV

The rich young ruler thought heaven was just a payment away.

It only made sense.

You work hard, pay your dues, and “zap”—your account is credited as paid in full.

Jesus said,

“No way.”

What you want costs way more than you can pay.

You don’t need a system,

you need a Savior.

You don’t need a resume,

you need a Redeemer.

For “what is impossible with me

is possible with God.”

Tebow, John 3:16 Drive Internet Evangelism

Tebow, John 3:16 Drive Internet Evangelism

January 12, 2012 – When Tim Tebow threw for 316 yards on Sunday, it launched a viral buzz over one of his favorite verses, John 3:16, which has led to thousands of people landing on the BGEA’s Internet Evangelism website, PeacewithGod.net.

Tebow, John 3:16 Drive Internet Evangelism

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. — John 3:16 (NIV)

Tebow, John 3:16 Drive Internet Evangelism

By Trevor Freeze

Search John 3:16 in Google and in the blink of an eye — 0.11 seconds to be exact — more than 104 million search results pop up.

Ironically, it took all of 11 seconds for Tim Tebow’s Denver Broncos to score a huge upset in overtime Sunday night against the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers defense.

Tebow — a devout Christian who wore the Bible verse John 3:16 painted on his eye blacks during the 2009 NCAA National Championship game — finished with 316 yards.

And if that wasn’t enough…

Tebow’s per-throw average: 31.6 yards.

Sunday’s overtime TV rating: 31.6.

Pittsburgh’s time of possession: 31 minutes, 6 seconds.

But there have been other numbers, eternally speaking, surrounding John 3:16 that have also been registered this week on PeacewithGod.net. The initial website launched by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s Internet Evangelism ministry known as Search for Jesus has had a very busy week.

Taking advantage of John 3:16’s popularity in Google searches on Monday, the BGEA advertised a PeacewithGod.net landing page around searches for John 3:16 — the central message of the video-driven Gospel website.

Over 9,000 users specifically inquiring about John 3:16 this week have landed on PeacewithGod.net via Google, with more than 150 clicking they had made a decision to accept Jesus Christ into their life.

“That’s what makes this online ministry so unique,” said John Cass, BGEA’s director of Internet Evangelism. “We can respond to exactly what people are searching for at that moment—and it’s often a very simple next-step to the Gospel.

“Current events give us the opportunity to share the Gospel.”

Churches and individuals can partner with the BGEA’s Internet Evangelism ministry by clicking on the How You Can Help tab on the website SearchforJesus.net.

Always one to deflect credit, Tebow did not mention the similarities of the 316 passing yards and one of his favorite verses in Sunday’s post-game press conference, but he was quick to give God the glory.
photo
“First and foremost, I just want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Tebow said. “He’s done so much in my life.”

In the course of his preaching ministry, Billy Graham delivered countless sermons from John 3:16, which reads: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (NIV).”

[Creation of New Blog Award: The Candle Lighter Award

Posted on December 18, 2011 by Kate Kresse

http://believeanyway.wordpress.com/2011/12/18/creation-of-new-blog-award-the-candle-lighter-award/i

There are a number of blog/blogger awards. I began to think about my purpose for blogging. I mean the title of my blog reveals a lot about my mission: Believe Anyway. I have blogged before that I chose the title to remind myself to stay optimistic. My purpose is to light a candle in the darkness that envelopes us all at times. I want to lighten loads and light the way. I gravitate towards positive people and positive blogs. I want to start a blog award that reflects my love for the positive in the blogosphere.

To see a list of blogs that has been given The Candle Lighter Award Click on The Candle Lighter Award button on my header.

I call my award The Candle Lighter Award. It is for blogs and bloggers that light a candle in the darkness with their blog. What does it mean? Whenever I see a post or blog that I think brings light to the world, I will put a copy of this post and give them The Candle Lighter Award. What does the recipient have to do to accept it? Just accept it and put the Candle Lighter Award badge from my blog onto their blog. Please put the link from this post about my creation of the award in a post on your blog so people can read about it. What else do recipients have to do? Nothing. If they do think someone else is a Candle Lighter, they can surely give them the award anytime they want and as often as they want. [I’d love it if you could send me the links for the blogs you do find worthy of the award, because I’d love to see their blogs, too! But it isn’t required]. There is no limit to how many blogs you award The Candle Lighter Award to and no limit to how many times someone can receive it. But when you do, I ask that you use the link for this post.]

~

Jeanne Webster nominated me for this award, which I accept.  Thank you so much, Jeanne, and I counter your blessing with prayers and gratitude.

For all you bloggers who refuse award nominations because it takes too long to gather names, format post, etc., you don’t have to do that for this award.  Accept it and give thanks for the thought.  LOL!  Then make another image link and post your award on your blog, if you so desire.

I accept this award and nominate the names below for this thoughtful award:

Believing in Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow FoundationTim Tebow with Jacob Rainey, one of the many people dealing with health problems Tebow hosted at Broncos games this season.

(My Note: I know there is a lot of hoopla going on surrounding Tim Tebow, but I think, as Christians, we really need to support all other Christian brothers and sisters in their stand for our Lord and Savior. Tim is reaching millions of people that none of us can. It is a gift that he uses to glorify His Lord. Let’s support Tim through our prayers.)

By Rick Reilly

ESPN.com

I’ve come to believe in Tim Tebow, but not for what he does on a football field, which is still three parts Dr. Jekyll and two parts Mr. Hyde.

No, I’ve come to believe in Tim Tebow for what he does off a football field, which is represent the best parts of us, the parts I want to be and so rarely am.

Who among us is this selfless?

Every week, Tebow picks out someone who is suffering, or who is dying, or who is injured. He flies these people and their families to the Broncos game, rents them a car, puts them up in a nice hotel, buys them dinner (usually at a Dave & Buster’s), gets them and their families pregame passes, visits with them just before kickoff (!), gets them 30-yard-line tickets down low, visits with them after the game (sometimes for an hour), has them walk him to his car, and sends them off with a basket of gifts.

Home or road, win or lose, hero or goat.

Remember last week, when the world was pulling its hair out in the hour after Tebow had stunned the Pittsburgh Steelers with an 80-yard OT touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas in the playoffs? And Twitter was exploding with 9,420 tweets about Tebow per second? When an ESPN poll was naming him the most popular athlete in America?

Tebow was spending that hour talking to 16-year-old Bailey Knaub about her 73 surgeries so far and what TV shows she likes.

MORE FROM TIM TEBOW

For Tim Tebow’s take on being named America’s most popular athlete, click here.

“Here he’d just played the game of his life,” recalls Bailey’s mother, Kathy, of Loveland, Colo., “and the first thing he does after his press conference is come find Bailey and ask, ‘Did you get anything to eat?’ He acted like what he’d just done wasn’t anything, like it was all about Bailey.”

More than that, Tebow kept corralling people into the room for Bailey to meet. Hey, Demaryius, come in here a minute. Hey, Mr. Elway. Hey, Coach Fox.

Even though sometimes-fatal Wegener’s granulomatosis has left Bailey with only one lung, the attention took her breath away.

“It was the best day of my life,” she emailed. “It was a bright star among very gloomy and difficult days. Tim Tebow gave me the greatest gift I could ever imagine. He gave me the strength for the future. I know now that I can face any obstacle placed in front of me. Tim taught me to never give up because at the end of the day, today might seem bleak but it can’t rain forever and tomorrow is a new day, with new promises.”

I read that email to Tebow, and he was honestly floored.

“Why me? Why should I inspire her?” he said. “I just don’t feel, I don’t know, adequate. Really, hearing her story inspires me.”

It’s not just NFL defenses that get Tebowed. It’s high school girls who don’t know whether they’ll ever go to a prom. It’s adults who can hardly stand. It’s kids who will die soon.

For the game at Buffalo, it was Charlottesville, Va., blue-chip high school QB Jacob Rainey, who lost his leg after a freak tackle in a scrimmage. Tebow threw three interceptions in that Buffalo game and the Broncos were crushed 40-14.

“He walked in and took a big sigh and said, ‘Well, that didn’t go as planned,'” Rainey remembers. “Where I’m from, people wonder how sincere and genuine he is. But I think he’s the most genuine person I’ve ever met.”

There’s not an ounce of artifice or phoniness or Hollywood in this kid Tebow, and I’ve looked everywhere for it.

Take 9-year-old Zac Taylor, a child who lives in constant pain. Immediately after Tebow shocked the Chicago Bears with a 13-10 comeback win, Tebow spent an hour with Zac and his family. At one point, Zac, who has 10 doctors, asked Tebow whether he has a secret prayer for hospital visits. Tebow whispered it in his ear. And because Tebow still needed to be checked out by the Broncos’ team doctor, he took Zac in with him, but only after they had whispered it together.

And it’s not always kids. Tom Driscoll, a 55-year-old who is dying of brain cancer at a hospice in Denver, was Tebow’s guest for the Cincinnati game. “The doctors took some of my brain,” Driscoll says, “so my short-term memory is kind of shot. But that day I’ll never forget. Tim is such a good man.”

This whole thing makes no football sense, of course. Most NFL players hardly talk to teammates before a game, much less visit with the sick and dying.

Isn’t that a huge distraction?

Tim Tebow with Zac

Stephanie Taylor Not everything Tim Tebow does on one knee is controversial. Ask Zac Taylor.

“Just the opposite,” Tebow says. “It’s by far the best thing I do to get myself ready. Here you are, about to play a game that the world says is the most important thing in the world. Win and they praise you. Lose and they crush you. And here I have a chance to talk to the coolest, most courageous people. It puts it all into perspective. The game doesn’t really matter. I mean, I’ll give 100 percent of my heart to win it, but in the end, the thing I most want to do is not win championships or make a lot of money, it’s to invest in people’s lives, to make a difference.”

So that’s it. I’ve given up giving up on him. I’m a 100 percent believer. Not in his arm. Not in his skills. I believe in his heart, his there-will-definitely-be-a-pony-under-the-tree optimism, the way his love pours into people, right up to their eyeballs, until they believe they can master the hopeless comeback, too.

Remember the QB who lost his leg, Jacob Rainey? He got his prosthetic leg a few weeks ago, and he wants to play high school football next season. Yes, tackle football. He’d be the first to do that on an above-the-knee amputation.

Hmmm. Wonder where he got that crazy idea?

“Tim told me to keep fighting, no matter what,” Rainey says. “I am.”

Love like God

“Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God.”

Philippians 2:6 NLT

Need more patience? Drink from the patience of God (2 Peter 3:9).

Is generosity an elusive virtue? Then consider how generous God has been with you (Romans 5:8).

Having trouble putting up with ungrateful relatives or cranky neighbors?

God puts up with you when you act the same.

“He is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked” (Luke 6:35 NIV).

Can’t we love like this?

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 7,700 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

Thanks to all our followers and readers for your encouragement to “keep on keeping on”.

We are humbled by this report and pray that by our reaching out to the world on the Lord’s behalf, many will find courage, strength, love, and support in our daily walk.

Blessings to all of you as we walk through 2012 together.

Jesus Cleanses and Calls

By Jon Walker

“‘Woe to me!’ I cried. ‘I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips … and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.’ Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal … which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, ‘See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.’ Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” (Isaiah 6:5–8 NIV)

One of the most effective tools the enemy will use to keep you from serving God this year is convincing you that you’ve either messed up too much or that you must clean up your life before you can get God’s attention. When these thoughts pop into your head, sniff the air for the scent of sulfur because they are lies straight from the fires of Hell!

God’s intention when he convicts us of our sins is not to condemn us; rather his breath of life disperses that satanic smoke the father of lies uses to keep us on the run from God.

If you follow the sequence of Isaiah 6, you’ll see how God initiates the process that brings you into his holy presence and purifies you to remain in his presence, and that your new guilt-free, sin-atoned status will compel you and prepare you for the unique mission God sets before you.

Isaiah reports that God’s fire is a cleansing fire that burns your guilt away and purifies you from sin, sealing within you the work of Jesus Christ. The prophet also suggests God’s ultimate purpose for cleansing us is to prepare us for mission: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” (Isaiah 6:8 NIV)

Prior to God taking the initiative to cleanse Isaiah, the prophet felt overwhelmed and unprepared for any mission on God’s behalf.

After the cleansing, Isaiah is energized with a desire to serve God.

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, God has done the work of preparing you for whatever task he will ask of you. How will you seek God and his mission for you this year?

Touch the World

She brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped
Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger.
Luke 2:7, NKJV

Where will God go to touch the world?

What a great thought and even better question.

It’s that time of year when we hear about the virgin birth.

And yet, it’s more, much more, that a Christmas story.

It’s a story of how close Christ will come to you.

The first step on his itinerary was a womb.

Where will God go to touch the world?

Look deep within Mary for an answer.

Better still, look deep within yourself.

“Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Col. 1:27 NIV).

Christ grew in Mary until he had to come out.

Christ will grow in you until the same occurs.

He will come out in your speech,

in your actions,

in your decisions.

Every place you live will be a Bethlehem,

and every day you live will be a Christmas.

You,

like Mary,

will deliver Christ into the world.

Because what we’re really getting ready for is Love

Preparing for the holidays is primarily a preparing of the heart.

Because what comes down is love and the way to receive love isn’t to wrap anything up — but to unwrap your heart.

This will take time.

This will take waiting.

I must make space for these.

Why don’t I make space just for the heart unwrapping?

Advent — this is the season of preparing that prepares us for any season of life — because we are preparing our lives for Christ to enter in — which prepares for us the life without end.

Is that the ultimate purpose of this life — the preparing for the next life?

Is this why Christmas, Advent, unlike any other time of year, glimmers with a glimpse of heaven — because it’s the time of year we’re fulfilling our purpose, preparing for Christ and His coming again? The Christmas tree’s been lit for weeks, a beacon, a preparing, an anticipation. Why is it easier to make Christmas cookies than to make our hearts ready for Christ?

Is getting ready for Christmas as simple and difficult as simply sitting stilled before the cradle of Christ?

And yet.

Love came down and “He came to his own people, and his own people did not receive him.”

(John 1:11)

Love came down – and his own people did not recognize Him.

Love came down — and His own people did not want what He offered.

The Messiah came down and He wasn’t received as the Messiah — and Love comes down down and who receives all the moments as His love?

How in the world am I receiving Christ this Advent?

During Advent, the season of waiting for the coming, the Christ-people, they meet whatever comes with this brazen belief that it is Love that Comes Down.

Love comes down to His own people — and His own people are the ones who do receive the unexpected and unlikely as His love.

The infant as infinite God.

The Babe as bondage-breaker.

The stump as new shoot, the ugly as beautiful, the weak as strong.

Our loving God always comes to us wrapped in the unlikely.

We may not know the outcome but we tenaciously believe that in Him we overcomebecause Love comes down.

Is that how we get ready for Christmas? By readying the heart to receive the gift of every moment — no matter what the moment unexpectedly holds — as a gift of His love?

We’re ready for Christmas, not when we have all the gifts, but when we are ready for Christ — when we’re ready to give all of ourselves to Christ.

At the end of the day, the carols hardly play, and yet I hear them.

I light the candles at the hearth.

And I can feel how it comes.

The warmth and the flame and this slow unwrapping of everything bound…

Verse of the Day – Let’s not let generosity and concern for those less fortunate be a once a year thing!

VERSE:
When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf,
do not go back to get it. Leave it for the alien, the fatherless
and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the
work of your hands.
— Deuteronomy 24:19
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Deuteronomy+24:19

THOUGHT:
This is clearly a passage old Scrooge hadn’t seen! God has
always set aside a provision for the poor. In this time of the year
when many people the world over take special time to look after those
who are less fortunate, let’s open our date books and schedule a
week to dedicate time for special generosity in May and in August
to go with a heart committed to be generous all the time. Let’s not
let generosity and concern for those less fortunate be a once a
year thing!

PRAYER:
For all of your wonderful gifts of kindness and grace, I thank
you, dear Father and God. Please stir my heart to care for others
as you do. Please help me keep that spirit of concern alive all
year long and not just around Christmas time. In Jesus’ name I ask
this. Amen.

Daily Promise – December 13 – God is for you, not against you and He will go before you and fight your battles on your behalf

Deuteronomy 1:30 KJV

The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you,
according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;

Promise #347: I will go before you and fight your battles.

I love this photo of lightning that is the backdrop of today’s promise. Such power released from heaven in such a short time. May this image be a reminder of the incredible power of our God and Father for He is the biggest Dad and the strongest Dad in the universe!

In Exodus 14:14, the Lord makes this promise to Israel… “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” NIV Today’s promise is yet another reminder that God has committed Himself to fight for you. In Romans 8:31 Paul reminds us that if God is for us, who can be against us?

We know from Ephesians 6 that our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the dark powers and rulers of this world. In Ephesians 6:10 we are called to be strong in the Lord and His mighty power and to take on the full armor of God. It is His armor, not ours.

If you are feeling overwhelmed today with the things that are opposing you, may this promise bring great comfort to your heart. My prayer is that each and every one of us would live in the safety and security that is described in Psalm 91, knowing that we live in the secret place of the Most High, and we dwell under the shadow of the Almighty. …God is for you, not against you and He will go before you and fight your battles on your behalf.

Settling the Score

Do not try to punish others
when they wrong you, but wait for God
to punish them with his anger.
Romans 12:19

In the western movies the bounty hunter always travels alone.

It’s not hard to see why.

Who wants to hang out with a guy who settles scores for a living?

Who wants to risk getting on his bad side?

More than once I’ve heard a person spew his anger.

He thought I was listening, when really I was thinking, I hope I never get on his list.

Cantankerous sorts, these bounty hunters.

Best leave them alone.

Hang out with the angry and you might catch a stray bullet.

If you’re out to settle the score, you’ll never rest.

How can you?

Romans 12:19 reminds us,

“Do not try to punish others when they wrong you,

but wait for God to punish them with his anger.”

As justified as you are in your quest for vengeance,

you may never get justice.

And if you do, will it make a difference?

What Friends Do

“A friend loves you all the time.”

Proverbs 17:17

One gets the impression that to John, Jesus was above all a loyal companion.  Messiah?  Yes.  Son of God?  Indeed.  Miracle worker?

That, too.

But more than anything Jesus was a pal.

Someone you could go camping with or bowling with or count the stars with…

Now what do you do with a friend?

(Well, that’s rather simple too.)  You stick by him.

Maybe that is why John is the only one of the twelve who was at the cross.

He came to say good-bye.

By his own admission he hadn’t quite put the pieces together yet.

But that didn’t really matter.

As far as he was concerned, his closest friend was in trouble and he came to help.

“Can you take care of my mother?”

Of course.  That’s what friends are for.

Needs in our Community

Thoughts have been running through my mind for days as to how to post about what is going on in our lives.

We really need your prayers and support as we continue to minister in our community–a community of many who have deep needs. Our friend who is terminally ill with cancer has needed our help in preparing her to move to live with her son in Nevada. Emotional,  physical, spiritual support has been needed and we have been obeying God to fill those needs.

Others have needed guidance, prayer, and all kinds of other support.

There are those in our community who do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior, so your prayers for those specific needs would be greatly appreciated.

We feel God has given us the gift of love in action. It takes a lot of energy and spiritual strength. Of course, in the process, the devil is attacking us, and we have been physically sick in the middle of helping those who need us.

All of the things going on has kept us from coming here with any consistency, and I know you all understand. We get a lot of strength and encouragement from each of you, but have been unable to take the time we used to, to read what you all are writing. But know that each of your ministries are important to us, and that we keep you all in our prayers, daily.

Much love and blessings, especially during this time as we celebrate the life of Jesus and the Greatest Gift we have through Him.

Verse of the Day – November 30

I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with
thanksgiving.
    — Psalm 69:30
       http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+69:30

THOUGHT:
When was the last time you sang praises to God outside a church
or devotional service? Why not open up the Psalms and find several
verses that reflect your own praise and thanks to God and give them
a tune — your own tune! God doesn’t care if your spiritual gift is
music or not; he’s just listening for your heart to be full of joy
as you share your praise and thanksgiving with him.

PRAYER:
O gracious Father, giver of every good and perfect gift, forgive
me for relegating my thanksgiving and praise to special days and
special places. I praise you for creating your human children with
the capacity to celebrate goodness, to rejoice in your creation,
and to have the capacity for praise and thanksgiving. Thank you for
making our world so full of reasons to offer thanks to you, our
Abba Father and Creator. As you continually fill me with your
Spirit, may my heart overflow with songs of praise and words of
thanksgiving. In Jesus’ holy name I pray. Amen.

Daily Promise – November 30 – God keeps His promises–All of them.

1 Kings 8:56 KJV

Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel,
according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise,
which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.

Promise #334: Every word of every promise that I have made will come to pass.
God is not a man that He should lie. Every promise that He has made will come to pass because He is faithful to do all that He has said that He will do. In a world of broken promises and disappointing authority figures, it is easy to become cynical and untrusting. Our negative life experiences with people can cause us to mistrust God in the same way.

In today’s promise, we are reminded that God keeps His promises. All of them. We may not understand His ways at times, but He is always true to His Word. Trust is a huge part of the foundation of our faith. If we struggle to trust Him, we will struggle to believe what He says is true.

My prayer today is that God will restore childlike trust to each of our hearts in increasing measure so that we will have every confidence that every promise that our Papa makes will come to pass!

Grace Makes All the Difference

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—

and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.

Ephesians 2:8

If life is “because I have to”—

where’s the joy in that?

Too often I hear folks rejecting Christ because they think the Christian life

is all about rules and regulations—

all about stifling, suffocating ritual.

It happens when we confuse Christ with legalism.

Legalism is joyless because it’s endless.

There is always another class to attend,

another person to teach,

another mouth to feed.

Grace!

It makes all the difference.

I like this quote:

Gone are the exertions of law-keeping,

gone the disciplines of legalism,

gone the anxiety that having done everything

we might not have done enough.

We reach the goal

not by the stairs but by the lift . . .

God pledges his promised righteousness to those

who will stop trying to save themselves.

Grace offers rest.

Legalism?

Never.

How do you respond to those who seek to hurt you?

“Love your enemies! Do good to them! Lend to them! And don’t be concerned that they might not repay. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to the unthankful and to those who are wicked! You must be compassionate, just as the Father is compassionate.”

Luke 6:35-36 NLT

The sign of a loving heart

“Our enemies are out to hurt us. They want to steal from us, cheat us, and do evil against us. Yet Jesus says we are to be kind to them. What is his point? We reflect — or should reflect — God to the world, and God is kind — even to the unkind, the ungrateful, and those whom we consider to be “hopeless” cases. Kindness is based on the love we have for others, not the love others deserve.

Kindness is the sign of a loving heart, one of the greatest of all virtues. A kind person is pleasant, good, gracious — always appreciated. There’s a lot of talk these days about “random acts of kindness.” Maybe this is because we live in a society starved for good deeds. God is our model for kindness. The kindest act ever committed was God’s sending his own Son, Jesus, to die for our sins so that we might live forever in heaven. God also showers us with kindness each day, sending sunshine and rain, food and friends, comfort and encouragement, boundless love and wisdom.

Daily Promise – November 29 – He has prepared an everlasting city for us to enjoy!

Hebrews 11:16 KJV

But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God
is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Promise #333: An everlasting city awaits you, for I am not ashamed to be called your God.
Our God and Father has prepared a city for you and I that will last forever. He has done this because He is not ashamed to be called our God. In the last half of this verse in the Amplified Bible, it says this… For that reason God is not ashamed to be called their God [even to be surnamed their God–the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob], for He has prepared a city for them. AMPI love the thought that we have taken on God’s surname because He is so happy that we are His children. In Ephesians 3:14-15, the Apostle Paul says that all the Father’s family in heaven and earth derives its name directly from Him. We belong to Him and He is not ashamed of us! In Hebrews 2:11 the writer of Hebrews says that Jesus is not ashamed to call us His brothers too!

What an amazing family that we have been called into! Because of God’s great love for us, He has prepared an everlasting city for us to enjoy!

Verse of the Day – November 28 – Do everything without complaining or arguing

VERSE:
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may
become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a
crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in
the universe.
— Philippians 2:14-15
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+2:14-15

THOUGHT:
“Don’t complain or argue!” We don’t normally associate these
things with purity and blamelessness. Paul was extraordinarily
close to the Philippians and knew them well. He knew their
weaknesses and shortcomings. He also knew the destructive power
that complaining and arguing have on the life of an otherwise
vibrant community of Christians. Let’s heed his warning today, as
we see church after church taken under by the negative and cynical
spirit that pervades modern culture.

PRAYER:
Forgive me and cleanse me, O God, from my argumentative spirit.
Please empower me with your Spirit to use my speech only to bless
and to build up, never to tear down or discourage. In Jesus’ name I
pray. Amen.

Daily Promise – November 28 – The eternal glory that is in store for you far surpasses your present troubles

2 Corinthians 4:17 KJV

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment,
worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

Promise #332: The eternal glory that is in store for you far surpasses your present troubles.
I find it interesting that Paul refers to his own struggles a ‘light affliction’. This is a man who was stoned, shipwrecked and beaten nearly to death on a number of occasions. Yet he had the ability to see his sufferings through an eternal perspective. Because God gave him the ability to see with the eyes of faith, he could endure the hardships of life knowing what was yet to come.

In the light of eternity, our lives will be a moment, a twinkling of an eye, so to speak. In James 4:4, our lives are described this way… Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. NIV

No matter what you are struggling with today, be encouraged that the glory of God that will be revealed in you far outweighs your present circumstances. May our God and Father give you His peace so that you can take heart in this promise today as you continue to fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith.

We ‘ought to’ stop saying ‘ought to’

Posted: 27 Nov 2011 11:00 PM PST

By Jon Walker

Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity . . . . Hebrews 6:1 (NIV)

Although God does the heavy lifting in our transformation to Christ-likeness, we still bear the responsibility to keep discipline part of discipleship.

Therefore, we no longer run aimlessly; we have the sizeable objective of becoming just like Jesus. And so, as Paul describes it, we beat our bodies into submission as we press on toward our objective (1 Corinthians 9:26–27).

But, as we’re beating discipline into our thoughts and behavior, we too often slip into beating ourselves up over the inability to do the things we ought to do (Romans 7:16–25).

Here’s the thing, becoming like Jesus is difficult enough without this “Try harder!” mentality we tell ourselves. It sucks us into a cycle of I must, I ought, and I should that leaves us feeling defeated. And that only fuels our cycle to try harder.

This shifts our focus on how we can’t do it—instead of keeping our focus on Christ-in-us, who, having begun a good work in us, “will carry it on to completion” until we see Jesus face-to-face (Philippians 1:6 NIV).

Paul, ever the exhorter, says we’re to push toward the ideal, but his standards are never imperative ought-to statements demanding immediate perfection from us. Perhaps more than any other student yoked to Jesus, Paul understands our desperate need for God’s grace.

We make it our objective to make every effort to mature into believers who think and act just like Jesus. We may slip, we may fail horribly, but we press on to take hold of the abundant life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Philippians 3:12).

Daily Promise – November 13 – He is expecting, looking and longing to be gracious to us

Isaiah 30:18 KJV

And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you,
and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you:
for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

Promise #317: I will wait for opportunities to show you My compassion.

The Amplified version of the Bible says the first part of Isaiah 30:18 this way… And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. AMP

What a beautiful picture of the longing that God has for you and I. He is always in a posture of waiting for every opportunity to show us His compassion. I love the Amplified translation that says that He is expecting, looking and longing to be gracious to us.

This Bible verse reminds of the father in the Prodigal Son story in Luke 15 who was waiting for his rebellious son to find his way home. In this story, Jesus tells us that the father saw the son when he was still a long way off and started running toward his boy. I think in the same way, our God and Father is waiting and watching for every opportunity to run to us so that He might pour out His love and mercy all over us. May we always be mindful of this amazing truth!

Taking No Chances

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched,
Nor will the flame burn you.
For I am the Lord your God.
Isa. 43:2–3 NASB

With God—chance is eliminated.

God knows what is best.

No struggle will come your way apart from his purpose, his presence, and his permission.

Isaiah 43:2 says,

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers,

they will not overflow you.”

What encouragement!

You are never the victim of nature or the prey of fate.

Chance is eliminated.

You are more than a weather vane whipped about by the winds of fortune.

Would God truly abandon you to the whims of drug-crazed thieves, greedy corporate raiders,

or evil leaders?

Perish the thought!

You live beneath the protective palm of a sovereign King

who superintends every circumstance of your life, and delights in doing you good.

Remember this.

Nothing comes your way that has not first passed through the filter of God’s love.

Daily Promise – November 11 – Go to that place in our Father’s heart where we have free access to enter as His beloved little ones

Hebrews 4:16 KJV

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy,
and find grace to help in time of need.

Promise #315: Come boldly to My throne when you need to find mercy and grace.

You and I have an invitation from our God and Father to come boldly before His throne of grace today. In the book of Revelation, we read a little bit about what God’s throne room is like in chapter 4… Angels crying holy, holy holy, flashes of lightning, 24 elders bowing down, a sea of glass, and so much more! It is a holy place where angels fear to tread, but a place in our Father’s heart where we have free access to enter as His beloved little ones.

You can come into His presence right now if you like. His royal doors are always open to you, anytime, day or night. God wants each one of us to come to Him boldly, not timidly. He loves it when we climb up on His lap just as a little child would jump into his dad’s arms. He is always there for us ready to provide the mercy and grace to help us in our time of need.

There is no way that we can fathom the privilege that God has extended to us by inviting us to His throne of grace. It is an honor that could have only been purchased by the highest price possible…the shed blood of the Lamb of God. Thank you Jesus for making the way for us to become part of your family so that we could come boldly before our Father’s throne of grace 24/7! ~ Barry Adams

The Opposite of Fear is Faith

By Jon Walker

We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it. Numbers 13:30b

When the Israelites first approached the borders of Canaan, Moses sent scouts into the Promised Land to assess the situation. Ten of the scouts came back with reports that focused on the giants in the land, men so big and powerful the scouts feared they could not be defeated.

However, two of the scouts focused on the promise from God that he would hand the land over to the Israelites. One of those scouts, Caleb, silenced the others when he said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it” (Num. 13:30).

Caleb trusted God instead of trusting his own fear. The opposite of fear is faith, the belief that Jesus is capable of handling anything we may face in life. But operating out of faith means we must rely on Jesus, remaining dependent on him to see us through any issue.

He brings us to a choice: Will we trust God or will we trust our own fears?

The Bible says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Prov. 9:10a). In other words, we hold God in reverence, recognizing his sovereignty, authority, and omnipotence—his ability to protect us in any situation.

And we reach that level of trust by knowing the Father and understanding his character: “[K]nowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Prov. 9:10b). We know and understand the Father by following Jesus.

“To see me is to see the Father,” says Jesus. “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you aren’t mere words. I don’t just make them up on my own. The Father who resides in me crafts each word into a divine act” (John 14:9b–10 msg).

Your fear simply reveals a place where you aren’t yet trusting in Jesus. Don’t stay stuck in your fear, and don’t receive condemnation for your lack of faith. Jesus wants to move you past that into a place where your fears are replaced by faith. Follow him and learn to trust.

Contentment

I have learned to be satisfied
with the things I have and with
everything that happens.
Philippians 4:11

What if God’s only gift to you were his grace to save you?

Would you be content?

You beg him to save the life of your child.

You plead with him to keep your business afloat.

You implore him to remove the cancer from your body.

What if his answer is, “My grace is enough.”

Would you be content?

From heaven’s perspective, grace is enough.

If God did nothing more than save us from hell, could anyone complain?

Having been given eternal life, dare we grumble at an aching body?

Having been given heavenly riches, dare we moan about what we don’t have?

~ Max Lucado

Daily Promise – November 10 – There is no greater gift that He could have given to us, than the gift of His own life

Romans 8:15 KJV

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear;
but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Promise #314: I have given you the Spirit of adoption so you can call Me Father.

The most precious gift that God could give us is Himself. The Holy Spirit, which is called the Spirit of adoption or the Spirit of sonship, is the very Spirit of God Himself. The third person in the trinity is also referred to as the Spirit of the Father and the Spirit of the Son. The Bible says that we have received the Holy Spirit as a deposit to guarantee our inheritance. (2 Corinthians 1:22)

His very presence in our lives is the sign that we belong to God. We have now been born again and are God’s children and part of His amazing family. The very Spirit of the living God resides in us and bears witness with our own spirit that we are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Jesus. The only appropriate response that we could possible have is to cry out from the core of our being the words ‘Abba, Father!’.

‘Abba’ is an Aramaic word which was the common language that Jesus spoke to the people in. It is the most simplest way that a child can call our to their father. In English terms, it would be like a like us calling out to our papa or daddy. Romans 8:15 tells us that because we have the spirit of sonship living in our hearts, we can call Almighty God our papa! There is no greater gift that He could have given to us, than the gift of His own life that now lives right in the center of our being.

Verse of the Day – November 10, 2011

VERSE:
For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the
dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my
blessing on your descendants.
— Isaiah 44:3
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Isaiah+44:3

THOUGHT:
Growing up in West Texas in part of my early years, I certainly
know what “thirsty land” truly is. The black dirt shrinks, leaving
deep cracks in the ground. All the grass turns yellow, then brown,
and then dies. A wisp of breeze stirs swirls of dust over the
barren land. When the downpour finally comes, the “thirsty land”
swallows voluminous amounts of water as the rain runs off the wet
surface and finds its way into the deep cracks left from the
drought. The ground swells, the grass comes back to life, and life
is replenished. In a barren spiritual wasteland, God’s Holy Spirit
pours out his blessing, brings times of refreshment, and
replenishes our thirsty hearts.

PRAYER:
Generous and loving Father, thank you for so many blessings you
have poured into my life. Most of all, dear Father, thank you for
the blessing of your presence, your strength, your grace, and your
refreshment given to me through your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name I
thank you. Amen.

Bad Memories « Broken Believers

Bad Memories « Broken Believers.

Again, Bryan has given us a visual of what it is like to carry guilt, or sin, around our necks. Constantly trying to sling it off, but having the stench hang on. Even after obtaining forgiveness, we must immediately drag those self-deprecating memories to the feet and arms of our Lord and Savior. He will lovingly, willingly, pick them up, throw them out to the farthest point, and lift us up. Holding us, taking away our pain. Letting us rest from the weight of it all. Always, Jesus is the only one who can truly set us free.

Verse of the Day – November 9

VERSE:
God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things
beyond our understanding.
— Job 37:5
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Job+37:5

THOUGHT:
How does God help us know his will? Clearly God has given us the
Scriptures and the Holy Spirit to help us understand the
Scriptures. What about more subtle and less defined ways? Most of
us have had a “cluster of divine coincidences” (several events in
close proximity to prayer): a friend calls/writes at just the right
time; we read an article or hear a sermon that has a comment or two
directed at just the area of our concern or confusion; several
songs in worship convict us in the area on which we are seeking the
Lord’s guidance; or we simply feel a pull on our conscience that
helps us discern right from wrong in a difficult situation. God
really means it when he says that if we will pray for wisdom
without doubting he’ll give it to us and that if we are truly
seeking him we will find him. His voice does thunder in marvelous
ways!

PRAYER:
Holy God, please help me discern your will about several
important matters in my life. I don’t want to make my decisions
based on my limited human wisdom. Please lead me by your Spirit in
the direction you want me to go and use me to bring you glory and
praise. Thank you for caring about my life enough to show me your
way more clearly. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Daily Promise – November 9 – He is our Light and the Strength of our Life

Psalm 27:1 KJV

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Promise #313: I am your light and your salvation, the strength of your life.

There is a confidence that the Lord wants you to walk in that will cause fear to flee from our lives. It is the confidence that the shepherd boy David walked in when he defeated the lion and the bear while tending the sheep. It is that same confidence that David had when he ran towards a huge giant named Goliath armed with just a sling shot and a few stones.

David knew that the Lord was his light and his salvation and was the strength of his life. As a result of this revelation, David could walk in a holy boldness without being afraid. God wants you and I to have this revelation too! Jesus Christ is our light and our salvation and the very strength of our lives! We have nothing to fear because if God is for us, who can possibly stand against us!

May the boldness of a lion (Proverbs 28:1) rise up within you today as you reminded who you are in Christ!

Excellent post « Women’s Window

Excellent post « Women’s Window.

I just have to “Post, and Press this Forward”. And, I must say, I’m going to push the “Follow this blog” button. Not only does this author capture our hearts through excellent writing, but these words pull us into the reality of how we actually may be living our lives. Either positively, or negatively.

I personally needed to be brought back into focus today. To reevaluate what is really important.

Be blessed as you read, and digest these thoughts.

Beer Sheva

Beer Sheva is the capital of the Negev region of Israel, a desert city that serves as the gateway to this region. Beer Sheva is generally not on the agendas of many tourists to Israel, and is therefore somewhat of an off the beaten track destination. There are a number of interesting and unique things to do in Beer Sheva, an ancient city dating from Biblical times, including the old Turkish town, which is the only planned Ottoman city in the region, the Turkish railway station, and the Bedouin market, as well as nearby Tel Beer Sheba which is the archaeological remnants of the ancient city and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Turkish mosque in Beer Sheva by david_shankbone, on FlickrTurkish mosque in Beer Sheva by david_shankbone, on Flickr

The Old Turkish Town of Beer Sheva is the only city built by the Ottomans during their rule over the land, and today contains interesting remnants of this period including the Governor’s House which was the home and office of the first governor of the city, built in 1906 and today home to the Negev Museum of Art. The Old City also houses the city’s first mosque also built in 1906, the Turkish railway station built during the First World War, and many more buildings and streets which set the scene of life in the city and many other cities under Ottoman Rule.

The Bedouin market is a famous attraction in Beer Sheva, a weekly occassion taking place on Thursdays since 1905 in which Bedouins from the neighboring villages come and sell various authentic Bedouin wares such as copper products, glassware, jewelry, weaved crafts such as rugs, and more, as well as modern stalls selling clothing, footwear, and food, as you would find in any other market. The Bedouin market is relatively unique, a vibrant and colorful marketplace which is interesting to visit if you are in the city.

Tel Beer Sheva by Ian W Scott, on FlickrTel Beer Sheva by Ian W Scott, on Flickr

Tel Beer Sheba, is located about 5km east of the modern city and is home to the ruins of the ancient, Biblical city that was here. Now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tel Beer Sheba contains the ruins of a walled city from the Israelite monarchic period, as well as relics from the Roman Period, when the settlement sprawled to the area of modern Beer Sheva.

Beer Sheva is a city seeing somewhat of a touristic revival, and new initiatives are springing up across the city. These include the B7 Art Experience which provides educational tours and workshops for all kinds of groups wanting to experience the city, from outside the Old Mosque, in the Old Turkish City. Also, the city has, since the establishment and growth of the Ben Gurion University of the Negev seen a cultural revival, and restaurants, bars and nightclubs have sprung up across the city to cater for the large and vibrant student population who call this city home.

Daily Promise – November 4 – He understands what makes you tick

Psalm 139:1-3 KJV

1 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

Promise #308: I know everything about you and am mindful of all your ways.

Have you ever walked into a room full of people yet felt completely alone? I believe that we can be surrounded by many people in our day to day lives yet still carry a sense of loneliness in the depths of our soul. I think the reason that this is the case because we are all looking for a deeper, more profound interaction with people where we really get to know each other.

A professional counselor can get to ‘know’ a lot of people in their practice, yet still not be known by anyone themselves. I believe the cry of the human heart is that someone would know us through and through yet still accept us the way we are. In today’s promise from Psalm 139:1-3, King David makes the declaration that God knows everything about him and is familiar with all his ways.

God knows everything about you. He has even numbered each hair on your head. He understands what makes you tick and as a loving father is filled with compassion towards his children… so His heart is moved with compassion toward you! (Psalm 103:13-14) You are never alone because God is with you. He is close to you and understands you more than you understand yourself.

May this revelation go deep into each one of our hearts today so that we will never, ever feel alone again. He knows everything about us and yet He still loves us with all His heart!

Verse of the Day – We so easily forget to give thanks when things are going well

VERSE:
But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the
ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he
swore to your forefathers, as it is today.
— Deuteronomy 8:18
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Deuteronomy+8:18

THOUGHT:
As we enter the month often associated in the USA with giving
thanks, this reminder from Moses is an important one! We so easily
forget to give thanks when things are going well. It’s easy for us
to whine and ask God to help us when we are in trouble, but we
often feel like we “deserve” the good things that happen to us. God
reminds us that what we have is simply a confirmation of his grace
and his faithfulness to do what he has said. We need to remind
ourselves, and each other, that the blessings we have come from his
hand and not because we deserved them more than someone else.

PRAYER:
Generous Father, forgive me for my forgetfulness. Deep down I
know I don’t deserve all the good things you have poured into my
life, yet I sometimes find myself thinking that I’ve earned them.
Use your Spirit to forge in me a heart like Jesus’ heart, who did
deserve everything good and yet gave it all up to come to earth and
give me the greatest gift imaginable — the gift of your salvation!
Thank you so much for this gift of grace and the many other
undeserved gifts that you have lavished on me. In Jesus’ name I
thank you. Amen.

How deep are His thoughts!

Lord, you have done such great things! How deep are your thoughts!

Psalm 92:5

God’s thoughts are not our thoughts—

we aren’t even in the same neighborhood.

Psalm 92:5 sets the standard.

“Lord, you have done such great things.

How deep are your thoughts.”

When we’re thinking, Preserve the body;

God’s thinking, Save the soul.

We dream of a pay raise.

He dreams of raising the dead.

We avoid pain and seek peace.

God uses pain to bring peace.

“I’m going to live before I die,” we resolve.

“Die, so you can live,” he instructs.

We love what rusts.

He loves what endures.

We rejoice at our successes.

He rejoices at our confessions.

We show our children the Nike star with the million-dollar smile and say,

“Be like him.”

God points to the crucified carpenter with bloody lips and a torn side and says,

“Be like Christ.”

Thinking God’s thoughts.

Haifa

Haifa is Israel’s third largest city, set on the slopes of Mount Carmel facing the Mediterranean, and known as a myriad for coexistence between Jews and Arabs, who peacefully live here alongside each other.  A traditionally working, industrial city, Haifa is not a tourist destination to rival its big relations Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, although it does have one or two sites which should not be missed. The most famous of these are the Bah’ai Gardens, the part of the international center of this small, yet fascinating religion.

The Bah’ai Gardens form part of the Bah’ai World Center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These gardens are a place of pilgrimage for members of the Bah’ai faith and are set across terraces sloping down Mount Carmel towards the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. The gardens were recently redesigned and are remarkable, whether you decide you love them or not. The only way to visit is with a guided tour, and if you can stand being in a group its worth the pain. Tours must be booked, see here for more info.

At the bottom of the Bah’ai Gardens is Haifa’s German Colony. Recently restored templar-era buildings line the main street which runs directly from the base of the Gardens, and is lined with restaurants and cafes, ranging in cuisine from traditional Arab-style Middle Eastern Foods to more modern and creative forms of Western Cooking.

If science is your thing, worth visiting is the National Museum of Science located in the city. Great for kids, this museum is full of fascinating interactive displays, translated mostly into English, covering a wealth of great interesting topics. The museum can get busy during school holidays, but even then a visit is worthwhile. www.madatech.org.il

General culture in Haifa is overshadowed by Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, although it is possible to attend concerts by the Israel Philharmonic and other musical and dramatic groups when they perform here. Haifa’s biggest cultural event is the International Film Festival, which runs for one week each year at the end of September and transforms the city into a party city with over a hundred films of all genres shown.

Verse of the Day – God longs to give us a truly great and wonderful gift: his presence in us through his Holy Spirit

VERSE:
For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him
who knocks, the door will be opened.
— Luke 11:10

THOUGHT:
God answers prayers! Recent research in the recovery of surgery
patients for whom others prayed seems to validate this. Our
experience suggests it is true. The Bible promises us that it is
so. But Luke emphasizes one specific answer to prayer that
God-seekers receive. God longs to give us a truly great and
wonderful gift: his presence in us through his Holy Spirit (vs.
13). Because of the indwelling Spirit, God can do unimaginable
things for us and through us.

PRAYER:
Loving Father, the sacrifice of your Son for my sins is a truly
incredible gift. The blessing of salvation through Jesus is more
wonderful than words. The gracious gift of your presence in me
through your Holy Spirit is comforting and empowering. Thank you
for your assurance that as I seek you, you are eager to bless me.
In Jesus’ name I thank and praise you. Amen.

Revamped Expectations

The ways of God are without fault.

Psalm 18:30

It’s not easy when God doesn’t do what we want, is it?

Never has been.

Never will be.

But faith is the conviction that God knows more than we do about this life

and He will get us through it.

Remember, disappointment is cured by revamped expectations.

I like the story about the fellow who went to the pet store in search of a singing parakeet.

Seems he was a bachelor and his house was too quiet.

The store owner had just the bird for him, so the man bought it.

The next day the bachelor came home from work to a house full of music.

He went to the cage to feed the bird and noticed for the first time that the parakeet had only one leg.

He felt cheated.

So he called and complained.

“What do you want,” the store owner responded,

“a bird who can sing or a bird who can dance?”

Good question for times of disappointment.

Daily Promise – November 3 – We have been grafted into the vine

Deuteronomy 7:6 KJV

For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God:
the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself,
above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

Promise #307: I have chosen you to be My own treasured possession.

This declaration of love was spoken over the nation of Israel. God had set them apart for Himself and chosen them to be His own treasured possession. The ESV Bible says Deuteronomy 7:6 this way… “For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. NIV

We know that as Christians, we have been grafted into the vine (Romans 11:16-18) and now share in the spiritual blessings from Abraham. We too are a special people that God has chosen for Himself, His treasured possession. Ephesians 1:3-6 tells us how God lovingly chose us before the creation of the world to be adopted as His beloved children in Christ.

Do you feel the astronomical value that God has placed on your life today? If not, ask the Holy Spirit to show you how much you are treasured by your heavenly Father and I believe He will be faithful to show you just how much you are loved by God.
